“Have you ever found yourself at a crossroads, facing a significant decision or challenge that filled you with distress and uncertainty? Maybe it was a major life transition, a critical choice, or a daunting task. At such times, we can’t help but wonder if we are doing the right thing, if we’re on the right path. It’s in these moments of deep distress and introspection that we often find ourselves drawn closer to God, just as Jesus did in our passage today.
In John 12:27-50, we’re given a glimpse into Jesus’ inner turmoil as He approaches the pivotal moment of His last days. He’s on the precipice of fulfilling God’s redemptive plan for humanity, but the weight of the world’s sins, the impending separation from His Father, and the anguish of the impending cross bear down upon Him. However, what makes this passage truly remarkable is not just Jesus’ distress, but His unwavering commitment to God’s purpose, even in the face of such immense inner turmoil.
In this Sunday’s Adult Sunday school study, we’ll delve into this passage to explore the depth of Jesus’ humanity, His trust in God’s plan, and the significance of His words about light, belief, and judgment. It’s a passage that challenges us to reflect on our own faith and the response we offer when we stand at our own crossroads of belief and unbelief. Please read John 12:27-50 and come prepared to see how Jesus closes His public ministry. Hope to see you there! –Ernie Hood”
